The American School of Asunción is a selective co-educational day school which offers an instructional program from pre- kindergarten through grade 12. The school is a bilingual, multi-cultural educational institution that incorporates U.S. and Paraguayan culture, language, pedagogy, and values in an educational program for students from the United States, Paraguay and more than twenty other nations. In addition, students have an opportunity to participate in a variety of athletic, artistic, academic, and social clubs, such as National Honor Society, Student Government, Class Governments, Drama, Debate, Global Issues Network (GIN), Operation Smile, Community Service Projects, Student Publications Staff, Internship Opportunities, Varsity Basketball, Varsity Soccer, Varsity Futsal, and Varsity Volleyball. ASA adheres to the highest standards of educational excellence from the United States and Paraguay while fostering a student-centered and caring environment. ASA strives to be a model international learning community that empowers students to become responsible, proactive world citizens by providing a challenging and holistic education in a safe and caring environment.
ASA is directed by a Board of Directors whose members are designated by the Parents Assembly, which may also remove and replace them. The Board of Directors represent the entity, and has the obligation, the attributes and the necessary power to carry out the school's purposes mentioned in the statutes. The attributes and necessary powers are established in (Art. V section 1) of the statues.
The Board of Directors shall hire a Director General who shall be in charge, under the Board of Director’s authority, of the general management of the school’s curriculum, teaching and administration, with responsibility consistent with school’s statutes, the Policy Manual,Student, Parent and Community handbook and its established regulations and procedures. The Board of Directors shall be made up of nine (9) titular members, of which four (4) shall be Paraguayan citizens, (4) citizens of the United States of America, and one (1) citizen of a third nationality. If there is no candidate to fill this last position, the position shall be occupied by a U.S. citizen. All of the members must be fee paying parents or legal guardians of students of the ASA who are up to date in their school payments. In addition, the person that the Ambassador of the United States of America designates as his/her representative shall be included as an ex officio member with a voice but without vote.
