Overview

Since 1934, Nido’s curriculum and programming have been guided by the educational philosophy and principles of its founders, Waldo Stevenson and Juanita Keller. Bringing together the best in the Chilean and US educational traditions, they believed in the value of an experiential, values-based education and in taking advantage of the great Chilean outdoors to nurture the formation of character development.Nido’s school environment is simultaneously challenging and nurturing, giving our students the space and support they need to develop fully their personalities, values, and passions. Nido students and alumni are empathic, curious, and happy human beings who solve problems they encounter in the world with resilience, fortitude, and ingenuity. They are responsible, respectful, and generous stewards of environmental, cultural, and material resources. They trust in themselves, care for each other, serve their communities, accomplish their dreams and goals, and make the world a better place. The International School Nido de Aguilas offers an English language-based, liberal arts education, influenced by U.S. and Chilean thought and tradition, that prepares students to be eloquent communicators and impactful stewards of a rapidly changing world.

Governance

As a private, non-profit foundation, governance at Nido de Aguilas is exercised through a Board of Directors, consisting of a minimum of 9 members and a maximum of 13 members, all of whom must be parents of current or former Nido students. Of the 9 minimum members, four must be U.S. citizens, four must be Chilean citizens, and one is a designee recommended by the U.S. Ambassador to Chile, subject to election by the Board of Directors. They are the legal representatives of the school, and, among other responsibilities, they are empowered to establish general operating policies, ensure that the school’s mission and purpose is fulfilled, determine tuition and fees on an annual basis, oversee the school’s budget, ensure provision of safe and adequate school facilities, and hire a Chief Executive Officer (Headmaster).
